Folgt dem Buchstaben ein Geresch, ersetzt er den im HebrΓ€ischen nicht existierenden stimmhaften dsch-Laut (in FremdwΓΆrtern).

Geschichte

Gimel ist auch ein Konsonantenbuchstabe des phΓΆnizischen Alphabets, der vermutlich auf die stilisierte Darstellung eines KamelhΓΆckers (gamel = Kamel) zurΓΌckgeht. Von diesem Buchstaben leiten sich das hebrΓ€ische Gimel, das arabische Η¦Δ«m und das griechische Gamma her, aus letzterem entstanden das lateinische C und G.
